THE ATN TAKE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT
Clockify’s published free plan covers five users; Hubstaff’s ongoing free option is a limited one-person plan. Hubstaff also documents configurable screenshots and activity visibility. Start with the team’s time-reporting needs, then decide whether collecting more detailed activity is justified. [4][5][3]
HubstaffOne-person free plan with limited features; a separate 14-day trial is available without a credit card. [5][6]
Entry paid plan
ClockifyBasic: US$4.99/seat monthly, or US$3.99/seat/month billed annually (US$47.88/year). [4]
HubstaffSmall Business Essentials: $144 annually for exactly three paid seats plus a free owner, according to support. Confirm currency and availability; no monthly term or add-ons. [5]
Projects and tasks
ClockifyOrganize time by projects and tasks; check the selected tier for administration and reporting extras. [1]
HubstaffAssign projects and to-dos/tasks to members; client links and further controls depend on the selected plan. [2]
Activity recording
ClockifyDesktop Auto Tracker records apps and websites locally; convert selected activity into time entries. This does not describe every monitoring feature. [7]
HubstaffOptional screenshots and app/URL tracking depend on plan and organization settings. Provider says it does not record typed content. [3]
Paid billing unit
ClockifyActive and invited users count as paid seats, including owners and administrators. [4]
HubstaffOrdinary per-seat plans have a two-seat minimum and count owners, managers and inactive members; Project Viewers are exempt. Essentials has separate flat-plan rules. [5]
What to confirm
ClockifyCAKE.com’s terms restrict obscene or otherwise objectionable user content. Account eligibility and data permissions need a separate check. [8]
HubstaffScreenshots are not automatically blocked when sensitive material appears. Blurring, disabling and role visibility need deliberate configuration. [3]
Affiliate status
ClockifyCAKE.com advertises 30% on qualifying new-customer subscriptions for up to one year, subject to its agreement. ATN approval and publisher eligibility are unverified. [9][10]
Hubstaff20% on ordinary plans or 30% on Enterprise for 12 months, with an initial three-month hold and qualifying-payment rules. ATN approval and publisher eligibility are unverified. [11]
Consider it forATN assessment
ClockifyA small team wanting a documented five-user free starting point and project-level time records. [4][1]
HubstaffA team needing documented activity controls and role-based visibility, with a clear agreement about what is recorded. [3][5]
Plan comparison, not a timer-accuracy or privacy audit. Features and billing units differ. The Toggl entry covers Toggl Track, which remains supported for existing users, not the newer Toggl app. Prices are dated snapshots; confirm currency, taxes, seats and your account’s terms. Adult-business eligibility has not been verified.
Clockify counts active and invited users, including administrators. Hubstaff’s ordinary per-seat plans count owners, managers and inactive members, with a two-seat minimum and a Project Viewer exception. A teammate who does not run a timer may still affect the bill. [4][5]
Separate the flat plan from per-seat pricing
Hubstaff support describes Essentials as $144 annually for three paid seats plus a free owner, with no monthly term or add-ons. That is a different package from ordinary per-seat plans. Confirm its currency, availability and feature fit before comparing it with Clockify Basic. [5][4]
Do not infer all data behavior from one feature
Clockify describes raw Auto Tracker activity as local. Hubstaff describes cloud-stored screenshots and configurable visibility, without automatic sensitive-content blocking. Review the exact features enabled; neither description proves that all data in the service stays local or private. [7][3]
