DigitalOcean review.
Configurable cloud servers with clear bundled-plan billing and a separate v5 cost model.
Based on official documentation. Hands-on testing: not performed. Numeric rating: not assigned.
Our take
DigitalOcean is worth considering when the person choosing the server also has a plan for administering it. The published billing documentation is useful, particularly its distinction between bundled plans and v5 configurations. We would start with a workload estimate and a spending limit, not select a size merely because it is inexpensive.
A good fit for
A technically supported website or application whose owner can plan resources, maintenance, recovery, and usage costs.
Think twice if
You need a finished managed website, expect powering off a server to stop charges, or assume every Droplet configuration has a monthly cap.
Strengths & limitations
What stands out
- The Regular Basic table publishes resource allowances alongside hourly and monthly prices, including a $6/month option with 1 GiB RAM and 25 GiB SSD. [1]
- The billing guide explicitly distinguishes bundled CPU plans from v5 configurations, reducing ambiguity about how the selected configuration is charged. [2]
What to weigh up
- Billing continues while a Droplet is powered off because resources remain allocated. Deleting the resource ends that billing, so recovery and data-retention planning come first. [2]
- The AUP prohibits unlawful and nonconsensual material, infringement, and privacy-invasive abuse. This does not establish universal approval for every adult-business product or use. [3]
What it costs
The $4 and $6 Basic figures are bundled-plan monthly amounts, not complete website budgets. Extra outbound transfer is $0.01/GiB. Confirm tax, backups, storage, and other selected services. v5 usage varies with the actual hours in the month. [1] [2]
Where it fits in your work
Assign responsibility for software updates, access keys, backups, monitoring, and incident recovery. A cloud provider’s infrastructure and the security of the application running on it are separate parts of the job.
What this review does not establish
We have not deployed an application, measured latency, tested backups, or confirmed an individual adult-business use. No uptime or security outcome is claimed.
Product claims and published prices can change. The check date records when we read the sources; it is not a safety certification.
Affiliate & referral status
The official program advertises 10% recurring commission for a referred paying customer’s first year. Its signup link leads to Awin, which lists a 30-day cookie, while the landing-page text still mentions CJ. Check enrollment terms. ATN approval, adult-publisher eligibility, and payout minimums are unverified; no personal tracking links are used. [4] [5]
