DeskTime review.

Automatic tracking is useful only if the monitoring settings fit your work.

EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT

Our take

DeskTime is a candidate for understanding where desktop work hours go, but its monitoring choices matter more than a productivity score. For sensitive creator work, we would begin with the minimum activity collection needed. A team should agree on what gets recorded and who can see it before enabling the software.

A good fit for

Creators or small teams that need desktop activity records for editing, administration, or project planning and are comfortable reviewing the settings.

Think twice if

You only need a simple timer, or the computer regularly displays sensitive messages, identities, or material that should not enter activity records.

Strengths & limitations

What stands out

  • DeskTime documents automatic tracking and project reports, with screenshots and additional integrations on selected paid plans. [1]
  • When enabled, Private time pauses device activity tracking, including URL/app records and screenshots. [4]

What to weigh up

  • Administrators can disable Private time for the account, a team, or an individual. Do not assume that the advertised pause control will be available. [5]
  • The privacy policy describes recording application names, visited sites, and screenshots according to configuration. It says keystroke and mouse-movement counts may be recorded, but not typed content or exact click locations. [3]

What it costs

The current help page offers a 14-day trial and says continued time tracking requires a subscription afterward. We are not treating older mentions of a free Lite plan as a confirmed current offer. [2]

The pricing page displays Pro at $6.42 and Premium at $9.17 per user per month, alongside annual and monthly labels. The selected billing basis was not reliably established, so those figures are not presented as verified monthly-contract prices. Confirm currency, seat count, period, tax, and renewal before paying. [1]

Where it fits in your work

An activity log can expose more than a duration: the project, application, document, or website may reveal the work itself. ATN would decide the useful reporting scope first, then choose settings and access permissions that support that purpose.

What this review does not establish

We have not installed the tracker, assessed report accuracy, reviewed a live administrator account, measured productivity gains, or audited data security. Product documentation does not establish that a particular monitoring setup is appropriate for every team.

Product claims and published prices can change. The check date records when we read the sources; it is not a safety certification.

Affiliate & referral status

DeskTime’s affiliate advertising rules prohibit placements on sites associated with sexual, vulgar, or other content it considers offensive. That is a material restriction for an adult-industry directory; ATN publisher approval is not established. Customer use is a separate question. These links are direct, without affiliate tracking.
