Our take
Telegram is a candidate for permitted group coordination and announcements where multi-device convenience matters. The main decision is what information belongs there. We would not choose it on the assumption that every conversation has the same privacy properties, or that a private group guarantees confidentiality.
A good fit for
People organizing ordinary discussions or announcements who understand the difference between cloud and Secret Chats.
Think twice if
You require end-to-end encryption for regular group chats, need Secret Chat history across devices, or expect deletion to prevent every copy.

What to weigh up
- Secret Chats do not sync through the cloud, and logging out loses them. Telegram also acknowledges that screenshot detection cannot provide a complete guarantee against copying. [1]
- Telegram uses phone numbers as account identifiers. Its privacy policy allows disclosure of an IP address and phone number following legal review of a qualifying judicial order; it should not be described as anonymous. [3]
- The terms prohibit spam, scams, and illegal activity, and add separate rules for optional services. They do not establish blanket approval for every adult-business use. [4]
What it costs
Core messaging remains free. Premium prices vary by country and purchase route; app-store fees and local taxes may affect the amount. No single universal Premium price was verified. [2]
Cancel Premium through the provider used to purchase it. Review the current price and renewal before subscribing rather than treating a gift or another country’s price as your own quote. [2]
